Essential October 2025 Business Tax Deadlines

As the crisp fall air arrives, so do pivotal tax deadlines that businesses need to heed. October is a month for ensuring compliance with corporate filings, payroll deposits, and retirement contributions. Here's your guide to maintaining compliance and evading penalties this October.

October 15 - Corporate Tax Returns
If your corporation operates on a calendar year, October 15 is the deadline for filing the 2024 income tax return (Form 1120) and settling any dues, including taxes, interest, and penalties. This deadline is valid only for those who timely requested a 6-month extension by April 15.

October 15 - Payroll Tax Deposits
For employers adhering to monthly deposit rules, October 15 marks the deadline to deposit Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income taxes for September 2025. If the monthly rule applies, this is also the due date for September's nonpayroll withholding deposit.

October 15 - Keogh and SEP IRA Deadlines
If you're self-employed and received an automatic 6-month tax return extension, October 15 is your last opportunity to establish a Keogh Retirement Account for 2024. Additionally, it's the final day to contribute to SEP or Keogh plans for the year 2024 if your tax return is on extension.

October 31 - Quarterly Employment Tax Obligations
Employers need to file Form 941 for the third quarter of 2025 by October 31. It's crucial to deposit or resolve any undeposited tax under the accuracy of deposit rules. If your liability is below $2,500, the tax can be paid in full with a timely filed return. Ensure full and punctual deposit of the tax, and you may extend your filing until November 10.

October 31 - Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)
Businesses with a Federal Unemployment tax exceeding $500 through September should deposit accordingly by October 31.
