Key January 2026 Deadlines for Business Taxes

As we step into January 2026, it's crucial for businesses, employers, and individuals in the agricultural sector, like farmers and fishermen, to stay on top of important tax deadlines. Proactively managing these dates ensures compliance and protects against potential penalties.

January 15 - Employer’s Monthly Deposit Due -

Employers adhering to the monthly deposit requirements should mark January 15 as the critical date to submit Social Security, Medicare, and federal income tax withholdings for December 2025. Similarly, nonpayroll withholding deposits for December, under the monthly deposit stipulation, are due the same day. Remember, all employment tax deposits must be completed electronically unless the amount is under $2,500 per return period, in which case quarterly or annual payments with the return are permissible.

January 15 - Farmers and Fishermen -

For those in the farming and fishing sectors, January 15 is the deadline to pay estimated taxes for 2025 using Form 1040-ES. While the tax return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR) itself is not due until April 15, failing to meet the estimated payment by January 15 obligates filing the 2025 return and settling any tax liabilities by March 2, 2026, to avert penalties.
